ZÁBŘEH BREWERY

the history of brewing at the zábřeh chateau dates back to 1574

 

the tradition of brewing in zábřeh was revived in 2007 when we opened

the newly reconstructed chateau.  the rich history of the site inspired the owners

and the head brewer to seek out old techniques of brewing used by our ancestors.
the brewery was ceremonially blessed on 28 september 2007,

on the day of st wenceslas – the patron saint of brewers.

featuring moravian mini-breweries and a programme of cultural events

nine years of brewing our specials have proved the value of creating original beers from top-quality

natural ingredients using traditional methods – and now we know what your favourites are.
surprisingly, the first specials we brewed are still your favouritestoday – the chateau’s

calamus-infused 11° dark lager, created by our first master brewer václav baron

in september 2007, and the top-fermented ‘women’s’ wheat beer, a popular creation

by our current master brewer tomáš hub first brewed in 2009 (this is the first ‘weizen’ type beer

to be brewed in the region in modern times, and the first in europe to be targeted specifically at the fairer sex).

our now-traditional gluten-free special is also the first of its kind in the czech republic,

using complex technologies. another popular introduction is our

top-fermented 13° ale – the only ale-type beer brewed in moravia

 

what is PIKARD® like? we brew these classic beers using traditional methods –

we use no extracts or accelerators, we ensure all our ingredients are of top quality,

and we insist on only the finest red Bohemian hops from žatec. the beer has a rounded bitterness,

with a pure aroma of malt and hops.  the brewery equipment was supplied by the pivo praha

company, and we are the sixth microbrewery in the czech republic to use the company’s technology.

our output is 1000hl per year. we use a copper brew kettle (capacity 5.5hl), which forms a centrepiece

to the beer hall. next to the kettle is the malthouse and store. the rest of the process takes

place in an extension containing cooling equipment, a hot water tank, three fermentation tanks,

five conditioning tanks and two tanks for the final product. thanks to the reconstruction of the entire site,

the beer is piped from the tanks to the beer hall taps through a pipe running under the courtyard.
