Reconstruction in dates and photographs
We build the future by building on the past. (J.W.Goethe)
With the brave idea to reconstruct Chateau Zábřeh came Mr. Petr Hradil.
Within three years he sought to have the chateau officially listed as a cultural heritage site of Czech Republic (and it is now protected by conservation law under registration no. 21268/8-2699).
With the brave idea to reconstruct Chateau Zábřeh came Mr. Petr Hradil.
Within three years he sought to have the chateau officially listed as a cultural heritage site of Czech Republic (and it is now protected by conservation law under registration no. 21268/8-2699).
With the help of staff from the National Heritage Authority, Mr Hradil managed not only to preserve the authentic Renaissance style of the chateau, but also to develop it for commercial use.
The result is a rare example of a happy marriage between past history and the present day.
The main building of the chateau forms a U-shape, the base-court had already been demolished. Part of the roof structure had been stolen, as a result of which the perimeter wall was damaged, and in some places had fallen down completely. The inner walls had mostly collapsed. The 16th-century Renaissance vaulting had been preserved on the ground floor. The cellars were filled with building rubble. On the upper floor, the wooden roof beams had been preserved - all the beams are dated from the Baroque period except for one which dated from the Renaissance. The roof structure was in a relatively sound condition, however the mansard roof had been removed in the 1970s, robbing the chateau of the last remnants of its original Renaissance style - there was conducted dendrologic survey.
